Child Head & Shoulder Portrait

Here she is finished. I worked all night to get this done, so that it can be sent off to Germany today. Hopefully it will make it there before Christmas. The Dad wants to give this to his wife as a gift.

The paper is a nice off white, but unfortunately the scan doesn't show that very well at all. Anyway, I am glad it's finished. I learned much with this Portrait...primarily how difficult curls like this are to draw. Now I understand why there are no good tutorials out there for this subject. Straight hair is easy compared to this.

Now I move on to the next Portrait of little Isni with his Teddy Bear.

edited to add a slightly darker version....the scan just does not show up the way it looks in real life. On my laptops screen it looks so much paler than on my pc for example. I do have a nice range of values in this portrait, and it looks a whole lot better in real life. Just thought to mention that, since I hear it said a lot to go darker...

Christine,

AWESOME! This one is perfect. The hair is so great. Pat yourself on the back, this one's a winner.

Thanks for sharing your final, I know the Mom will be pleased.

Congratulations Christine! I am sure her Mom will be absolutely delighted with this gift!!! What a truly beautiful portrait - I particularly like the lovely dark area on her neck (on the right side as we view it). Of course there are many other stunning areas I could mention too! May the next portrait go quickly for you. :-)

C Hummel Kornell, I appreciate your words of praise! I can't wait to hear the reaction of the Mom after Christmas. ;o )

I appreciate your comment Teresa! Let's hope she will be. It's your Artists eye to notice the small things...lol...this area I was feeling a little insecure about and didn't know if it looked alright. Now I know that it does. Thank you!! ;o )

Oh,Christine! This is so much more than just "all right"! Her skin drew me into the portrait right away as you have such a talent for getting children's skin so smooth and child-like.

You had no reason to be concerned about the curls either. The whole portrait looks great and I know the mother will be so pleased with it!

I hope the little boy goes quickly and easily for you!

You did a fantastic job of capturing this little girl - the curls, the shadows, the eyes and the mouth! It is beautifully rendered -

You did a stunning job. And trust me, drawing curls isn't nearly as hard as living with them! She's precious.
